Robert has said for a while now he hates his privacy being invaded. He doesn’t like being chased by girls, so I guess if he quits, they’ll quit following him. From Showbiz Spy:

The rugged star — who is currently busy filming the third Twilight flick in Vancouver, Canada — has told Seventeen magazine that he’s thinking about quitting acting altogether.

“I don’t even know if I want to be an actor that long,” he said. “I don’t even know how to be someone else… if I start doing lame work, I’m not going to stick around and do it!”

If you read carefully, it sounds like he is talking about the way, way away future, not the near future. If Robert quit now, he would still be hounded because of his Twilight popularity.
